COLLECTION BULGARIAN EMBROIDERIES

2018

Inspired by the Bulgarian folk culture this collection is created with typical motifs and elements coming from the pagan beliefs and legends.
Every single motif has a strong meaning and is represented  with a modern point of view brought to life.

Observing and studying the patterns, once they are taken outside the context, enlarged and played with shape and size, they have very architectonic shapes. So I created these playful furnitures like wardrobe, bookshelf, cabinet and bench.

History

Depending on the region every embroidery has a different shape and significance. Bulgarians believed in their secret power and putting them on clothes or carpets they were transmitting this energy into everyday life.
Not only the shape, but also the color has it’s importance. The most commonly used colors are red, green and white.

Red is the symbol of maternal blood and a life expectancy, it also protects against “bad eyes”.
Green is perceived as an expression of eternal life and is connected with the Tree of Life and the close connection between man and nature.
White symbolizes purity, impenetrability and divine light.
